6.3.5 URLs

The approach to web service data communication is based on the use of URLs that are determined by the entity that publishes the web service endpoint to its business partners in order to share data with them.

While normally many URLs follow a common syntax it is not mandatory to use such an approach. Similarly, it is not mandatory that all URLs from a particular web service provider follow a common syntax.

All that is necessary for a company that wishes to offer a web service created in accordance with this standard, is to publish the URL for the relevant web service endpoints to its business partner(s) and make sure that the URLs placed in the responses to web service calls are (i) valid and (ii) active.
